John Tye B.Sc., C.Eng.
Piano Tuner for the Northampton area.
Obituary

Written by his daughter, Fiona.

John Edward Tye, age 78, was born in South Woodford, London, on 7th April 1943, the eldest of three children. He died on Sunday 25th July 2021 in Kettering, Northamptonshire, from a congenital heart defect he was unaware he had which caused a cardiac arrest whilst enjoying a long walk with friends.

John grew up surrounded by music and was always very musical himself. His grandfather started teaching him to play the piano at age 6 and he also played the trumpet as a child. He continued playing the piano throughout his life. In recent years he also started learning to play the violin.

John met Barbara whilst at university in London and they married in 1969, having a daughter in 1976. His first career was as a chartered design engineer and he worked for various companies in different parts of the country before ending up in Northampton. His wife died of cancer in 1993 when they were both aged 49. After being made redundent he took the brave step of training for 3 years at Newark and Sherwood College to embark on what became a very successful piano tuning business.

John is survived by his sister, daughter and two grandchildren.
